Day 1: Kampala/ Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park
After your breakfast, transfer to Kibale Forest National park. The drive will take you through tea and pine tree plantations and homesteads to reach Fort portal where you will have en-route lunch, the district that lies amidst the great mountains of the moon; the Rwenzoris. Stay at Ndali Safari Lodge, Mountains of the moon, chimp nest lodge, or Chimpanzee Guesthouse for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: A Memorable Chimpanzee Tracking
Have your breakfast, move to the briefing point to be equipped with the codes, and conducts while tracking the human closest relative- the chimpanzee. We shall be led by the ranger guides to kanyanchu river camp with an aim of viewing the man’s closest “cousin”- the chimpanzee. However, you may also have a chance to see other primates and bird species while in the forest. One hour is always given to visitors to enjoy the view, taking photos among others. Return to the lodge for lunch, relaxation while preparing to enjoy the afternoon forest walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary to have a clear view of a variety of bird species, primate species like black-and-white colobus, red-tailed, grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboons, and many more. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Kibale-Ishasha Sector-Bwindi Forest National Park
Have breakfast, drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Ishasha Sector on an en-route game drive to enjoy the view of big game like tree-climbing lions, Leopards, buffaloes, elephants, Antelopes, and warthogs among others, reach Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park; the home of Mountain Gorillas in the late afternoon. The Park is also known for other primate species like golden monkeys, Mangabeys, L’Hoest’s Monkeys, colobus, and red-tailed monkeys among others, as well as over 300 bird species. Have a relaxed afternoon as you wait for dinner and overnight at Gorilla mist Camp, Mahogany Springs, or Gift of nature lodge.
Day 3: Gorilla tracking- Life-changing event
Have breakfast and transfer to the Bwindi park headquarters together with packed lunch, water, tracking gears, among others. Get briefed on the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas before moving to the forest in search of them. The time you will take searching these humble apes is unpredictable but in most cases, it ranges between 2-6 hours depending on their movement of the gorilla groups. The activity requires you to go through steep rocks climbing up and down making it tiresome. However, the thrill of encountering these giant apes erases the poor memories you went through in trying to find them. Enjoy their view, take their photos and return to your lodge for relaxation as you prepare for an evening community walk where you will be entertained in some of the cultural dances of the area. If willing, you will be given a chance to participate in drumming, dancing, or simply sit and enjoy the entertainment. Return to the safari lodge for dinner and overnight at your lodge as on day two
Day 4: Bwindi – Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park, one of the smallest Savannah parks in the country with plenty of antelope species especially the impala from which the capital city of Uganda Kampala- was named. You may have a stop in Mbarara town for lunch and then continue with the journey to the park. You will go for an evening canoe ride on Lake Mburo to view the water-loving animals and plenty of bird species along the shore. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo safari lodge; Mantana tented Camp or Arcadia Cottages.
Day 5: Early morning game drive/return to Kampala
After a cup of coffee/tea in the morning, go for an early game drive in search of more animals and catch up with the early raisers before returning to their hiding places. We will retire for full breakfast at the park and then drive back to Kampala, with a stopover at the Equator for photography and educative talks, proceed to Kampala or Entebbe for your flight back home.
