Entebbe is among the best and developed cities in the country situated in the central part of Uganda on the Lake Victoria peninsula. Entebbe is found approximately 45km southwest of Kampala the capital and the biggest commercial city of Uganda. Before Uganda’s independence in 1962, Entebbe was the seat for the  British protectorate government.

Entebbe is where the only international airport in Uganda found meaning it’s the main entry of foreign tourists and travelers. The statehouse and the official office and residence of the Uganda president also found in Entebbe Town.

Since most of the tourists entering and leaving Uganda to pass through Entebbe Town, most of them spend some days there before they start their Uganda safari or before they board their flights back home. The Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC)

Uganda Wildlife Education Center or sometimes known as Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center or simply known by the locals as the Entebbe Zoo is found in Entebbe Town approximately 5km from the Entebbe International Airport this make it the first or the last destination to be visited by most of the tourist to the country.

The UWEC was established in 1950 with the main aim to accommodate injured and confiscated wildlife and to look after orphan animals confiscated from smugglers.

At Uganda Wildlife Education Center get ready to enjoy fun and excitement at this place that is for both leisure and education tours. Miss not to see and learn about the unique wild animals of Uganda, all in their natural settings that depict the three ecosystems in Uganda. Take some time to learn about how they live, eat, play, and communicate.

There are several tourist activities tourists can enjoy at UWEC that includes a walk through UWEC’s 1000 meters forest where you will be able to see the interesting shoebill stork birds, monkeys, birds, butterflies among others. There are over 200 species of birds in this forest that including the Weaverbirds, Sunbirds, Kingfishers among others. with the trained and experienced guides at the facility, you will be able to know details of all animals in the facility and you will be free to ask any question about the facility and the animals.

The Botanical Beach Gardens

The beautifully landscaped Botanical Beach Gardens is located in Entebbe Town is approximately a 20minutes drive from Entebbe International Airport. The gardens offer opportunities for both leisure and learning on how to care for the environment.

Entebbe Botanical Gardens host a variety of open country and forest species and tourists can spend a couple of hours here. Spending some time having a slow walk with your friend or loved one is such an amazing and breathtaking experience. This nature walk is rewarding with a see of different primates in the gardens like the monkeys and a variety of bird species. The Gardens are mainly known for being home to many bird species and this is the reason why it’s a perfect destination for bird lovers.

Entebbe Resort Beach

Also near the Entebbe International Airport and is one of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Victoria, the Resort beach offers luxury accommodation to both leisure travelers and business travelers. You can take a visit to the caves and see how beautiful nature is, take a walk by the lakeside or even chill by the poolside. The Entebbe Resort Beach is the perfect place for lovers on honeymoon to end their day for a long safari around Uganda.

Entebbe Resort Beach is not the only beach in Entebbe, Since the city is found on Lake Victoria, there are a variety of different beautiful sand beaches from where you can spend the evening taking the breeze from the lake.
Among the other sand beach in Entebbe include; White Sand beach, Spennah Beach, Pearl Beach Hotel Entebbe, Waterfront beach, Lido beach among others.

Kigungu Landing site

This is where the first catholic missionaries in Uganda Fr. Simeon Lourdel and Br. Amans Delmas landed on the 17th of February 1879. To the memory of this, a church was built here and there is also a monument by the waterside. Catholic pay pilgrimage to this spot to remember the arrival of these two French missionaries every seventeenth February every year.

Kasenyi Landing Site

This is a traditional fishing village where most of the people in the area survive on fishing. It is found in a bay about three kilometers away from Abayita Ababiriri where (Kampala – Entebbe highway) on the shores of Lake Victoria. It has various boat landing areas, a fish factory, and more to that, a recreational beach.

Reptile  Village

The Reptile Village is found 10km from Entebbe International Airport was established in 2003 to give protection to different reptiles. Visiting the reptile village you get a chance to get up close with all deadly kinds of reptiles. Among the reptiles you will find at reptile village include; cobras, monitor lizards, gaboon viper, boomslangs, skinks, tortoises, pythons, chameleons among others.

What makes Entebbe an advanturous place to visit is that all the attractions above can be visited on self-drive by hiring a car for self-drive from the many car rental agencies in Entebbe town. Hiring a car in Uganda is such an easy thing whereby you just need to have a valid driving permit and any other means of identification from your country of residence.
